Student volunteers needed!

Check out two upcoming opportunities for students to volunteer for community health:

  • Student volunteers needed for a learn to swim program! The College of Health is proud to be partnering with AquaMissions to provide swimming instruction here on campus for some local Cleveland 4th graders and we need your help to make it a success! Volunteer responsibilities will vary from being in the water and working with the instructor to help small groups learn basic swimming skills, to helping welcome kids off the bus, navigate to the pool and cheer them on. No worries if you aren’t a swimmer, we can find another job for you!  If you are interested in participating in this volunteer opportunity, please contact Dr. DeMarco with questions or complete the sign up link to let us know your availability and job preference. Learning to swim is a critical part of reducing drowning deaths in children, which is a public health crisis right here in Cleveland. You can be a part of this important work!  Multiple dates starting in late October.
  • Volunteers are needed to help provide health promotion screenings to Special Olympics unified athletes on Friday, November 8th at Studio W. 117 in Lakewood. This event is held every year and provides much needed preventive medical care to this special population. In the past we've helped provide 200+ screenings to kids in everything from physicals, biometric assessments, dental, podiatry, vision and health promotion.  This year we've been asked to take the lead on health promotion and talk to the participants about nutrition, fitness, sun safety and making smart/healthy decisions. If you would like to help, here's the link to sign up

This article was posted 10/15/24.  These opportunities will have a limited time in which to sign up, so please check for details at the above links.  If you missed these, please stay tuned for future opportunities to volunteer for community health!
