The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at Cleveland State University is situated within the College of Health.
They offer:
- A pre-professional undergraduate degree program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, which can prepare students for further study to be an Audiologist or a Speech-Language Pathologist;
- A master's level Communication Sciences and Disorders degree program, offered either in-person or fully online, which is the preparation for becoming a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist;
- American Sign Language minor, taken by students across campus to fulfill general education requirements.
In addition, students aspiring to a career in Speech-Language Pathology gain experience in our on-campus Speech and Hearing Clinic, which provides comprehensive diagnostic and intervention services for people of all ages, covering a wide range of communication disorders.

They offer the following programs:
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science, with multiple tracks to serve the needs of students interested in careers in health or health education, or preparing for further study in health science, medicine, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other health-related fields.
- Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science which can be preparation for a wide variety of health and fitness professions, or further study as preparation for careers in physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, medicine, biomechanics, and other related fields of research.
- Master of Science in Health Science is an online program geared towards current professionals who are preparing for a leadership role, preparing for graduate professional school (like medical school) or pursuing a research interest.
- Master of Education: Exercise Science will prepare students for careers as exercise and health trainers, coaches, educators or researchers with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and testing practices.
- Master of Public Health is an online program that prepares the working professional who would like to broaden their role in community health, enhance current job skills, or seek career advancement.
- Certificates in Culture, Communication and Health, Gerontological Studies, Health and Wellness Coaching
Music therapy is an established, evidence-based health science profession that harnesses the therapeutic power of music to support individuals across the lifespan. The Music Therapy program in the College of Health at Cleveland State University provides early hands-on clinical experiences, specialized music therapy ensembles, experience with digital music tools and a variety of instruments to equip you with the skills needed to thrive as a board-certified music therapist. With a completed undergraduate degree in music therapy and after passing a national certification exam, the graduate is eligible to practice as a music therapist making a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy among the fastest routes to being a licensed therapeutic practioner.

With accelerated and online options, the School of Nursing in the College of Health at Cleveland State University provides a variety of pathways to becoming a nurse, or advancing your nursing career. With placement opportunities across the region, faculty engaged with cutting-edge research, and state-of-the-art clinical experience labs, and service learning opportunities around the Cleveland area, a degree from the School of Nursing will jumpstart your nursing dreams.

The Occupational Therapy Department in the College of Health at Cleveland State University prepares graduates to work in both medical and community-based settings. Graduates assume diverse roles in clinical practice, consultation, teaching, management, research, and advocacy.

- Doctor of Occupational Therapy
The CSU DPT curriculum emphasizes advanced physical therapy skills in patient client management, specifically focusing on differential diagnosis, critical thinking, complex clinical reasoning, and clinical decision making to support student independence within a direct access environment. Students learn the importance of addressing the patient as a whole through the principles of evidence based practice emphasizing how individual differences, culture, and health literacy impact the management of an individual’s health, which strongly correlates with our mission to provide optimal PT care in an urban environment.

At Cleveland State University's School of Social Work, you learn how become a social worker who makes a difference. You get to define the difference you want to make across a nearly unlimited number of professional areas - behavioral health, alcohol/drug addiction, community mental health, child welfare, early childhood development, developmental disabilities, senior care, school-based, healthcare/hospital care, victim assistance, residential care, mental health clinical care, crisis/suicide assistance, and hospice/palliative care, among others. You can help individuals, families, or groups across your community as a licensed social worker and can advocate to make the changes needed at practice and/or policy levels.

- Certificates: Chemical Dependency (Addictions), Gerontology, School Social Work, Veterinary Social Work.
The Ph.D. in Transdisciplinary Health, Sciences and Technology (THST) program, housed within the College of Health at Cleveland State University, focuses on transdisciplinary work that pushes beyond the health field and into engineering, urban studies, education and more. With our Ph.D. in THST program, we bring together a diverse group of health professionals and those in health-related fields to prepare students to meet unique challenges and become leaders in healthcare technology.
Program offered:
- Ph.D. in Transdisciplinary Health, Sciences and Technology (THST) in a flexible, hybrid format that can be pursued in a part-time or full-time schedule.

Important information for College of Health Students
Many of our partner health care facilities require students and faculty to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and other standard vaccinations in order to have clinical experiences at their facility. In some programs, it may be difficult to complete placements required for your program of study if you do not get the required vaccines.
All International, Residence Life, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and MA in Speech-Language Pathology students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance. Waivers may be possible if you are already covered, however the waiver period is limited, so please check the below website to see if you are eligible for waiver.
