Welcome to the Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) is an undergraduate program that prepares students to enhance the quality of life of the individuals and communities they serve. The BSHS is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a health-related career
The study of Exercise Science provides an understanding of human movement, physiology, and physical activity and how they can be used to maintain or improve health, physical fitness, and sport performance. Studying Exercise Science fosters communication skills, critical thinking, and an understanding of human movement and physiology.
This program is intended for practicing health care professionals or those with an undergraduate degree in a health-related area (e.g. Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences) with plans to pursue a career working in health and human services settings. Courses are primarily offered online or in the evenings to accommodate the needs of working professionals.
The Master of Education in Exercise Science program helps students develop skills to organize and lead exercise programs in a variety of settings, including cardiac rehabilitation centers, corporate and hospital-based wellness programs, and private physical fitness enterprises. The primary focus of study is exercise physiology and its applications to physical activity programs. The program has a Laboratory-based hands-on approach to learning and applying the principles of exercise science. All graduate courses are offered online or in the evenings to accommodate students with other commitments.
The Master of Education in Community Health Promotion program provides a multidisciplinary approach designed to prepare professionals from diverse backgrounds who are interested in careers in health promotion roles. A variety of undergraduate majors (e.g., allied health, community health, healthcare administration, nursing, physical education, psychology, social work, sociology) and two years of prior work experience in a related role may prepare students for acceptance into this program and future employment opportunities in this professional field. The CSU Community Health Promotion program will engage students with the comprehensive set of Competencies and Sub-competencies at both the CHES and MCHES levels.
