The Cleveland State University (CSU) Gerontology Program is organizing its Annual Careers in Aging Day, to be held Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 4 pm to 6 pm. Careers in Aging Day is designed to provide an opportunity for CSU Health Science Students to interact with individuals working in aging and to understand career possibilities working with older adults. This year’s event will take place at CSU’s Main Classroom Building in room 202, located at 2121 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44115. The event will include meeting local organizations working with older adults and Careers in Aging Professional Panel. The Panelists will talk about why aging, what career opportunities are available, and how do you become a professional in aging. Panelists for the event include Violet Cox, PhD, CCC-SLP, Nicole Dawson, PT, GCS, Robin Chilton, OTR/L, MBA and Lauranne Scharf
Aging is a multidisciplinary field. This means that the study of aging integrates information for several separate areas of study. Biology, Sociology, and Psychology are core or basic areas along with other professionals that serve older adults. Gerontology is the study of the aging process and individuals as they grow from middle age through later life. It includes the study of physical, cognitive, and social changes in older people as they age as well as changes in society as the result of aging population. Geriatrics is the study of health and disease in later live and the comprehensive health care of older persons and the wellbeing of their informal caregivers.
