Certificate Programs

The M.S.H.S. also may be combined with one of CSU's certificate programs. These currently include: Advanced Study in Bioethics; Culture, Communication, and Health Care; Ergonomics/Human Factors; Gerontological Studies and, Occupational and Physical Therapy in the Schools.

CULTURE, COMMUNICATION, AND HEALTH CARE (12 credits) 
Students study ethnographic methods as a means to obtain accurate, culturally sensitive information from clients from an array of backgrounds, interpret the information to assist in planning a helpful course of treatment, and evaluate outcomes of treatment from the perspective of the client.

GERONTOLOGICAL STUDIES (13-15 credits) 
Courses are offered in three specializations, including clinical/interventive roles, gerontological policy/program development, and academic/applied research. These certificate programs are designed to accommodate part-time students. Students also can apply many of the earned credits to existing master degree programs.

ADVANCED STUDY IN BIOETHICS (15 credits) 
This program provides grounding in the essentials of ethical theory and practice for nurses, physicians, social workers, researchers, hospital administrators, and other health care professionals involved in bioethical situations and decision making. (click here for more information about Bioethics) 

OCCUPATIONAL AND PHYSICAL THERAPY IN THE SCHOOLS (12-13 credits) 
This 12 to 13 credit certificate offered through the Departments of Health Sciences and Psychology and the College of Education enhances the skills of occupational and physical therapists currently working or wishing to work in K-12 school settings or special schools.
