Transition to a Career in Music Therapy

If you already have a college degree but want to become a music therapist, our Post-Bacc Equivalency Program provides a direct path. This program allows students with degrees in music or other fields to complete the required music therapy coursework without having to earn a second bachelor’s degree. You’ll only take the courses you need to meet the educational and clinical training standards set by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). After finishing the program and a six-month internship, you’ll be eligible to sit for the national board certification exam to become a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC). Once you are board-certified, if you choose to work in Ohio, you will be eligible for music therapy licensure (Licensed Professional Music Therapist or LPMT).

Program Benefits
  • Accelerated Pathway – Build on your prior degree instead of starting from scratch.
  • Clinical Readiness – Develop real-world skills through supervised fieldwork.
  • Certification Eligibility – Meet academic and clinical requirements to sit for the MT-BC exam.
  • Career Versatility – Work in healthcare, education, wellness, or private practice.
