Music Therapy B.S.
Program Description
Grounded in both the art and science of music, the Cleveland State University Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy is accredited by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
Our music therapy courses (including internship opportunities) prepare students to sit for the national board certification examination administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). Once the exam is passed, the candidate receives the credential Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC) and is eligible to practice as a music therapist.
To practice as a music therapist in Ohio, students must pursue licensure as a Licensed Professional Music Therapist (LPMT). This state license is required to work as a music therapist or use the title "music therapist" professionally in Ohio.
Visit Us On April 30!
Our VIPS (Very Important Prospective Student) Visit Day is an opportunity for future students, parents, area music teachers and counselors to explore all that our music therapy program has to offer. Designed to give you an in-depth look at the real experiences and education that prepare our students for rewarding careers in music therapy, you will:
- Start your day by attending a music therapy class and gain insight into our teaching approach and curriculum.
- Enjoy lunch and our biannual clinical poster session, where you’ll see our students showcase their hands-on clinical experience from their practicum placements. Then, participate in a colloquium group meeting, where you’ll hear directly from faculty and students about our program, what makes it unique, and the many opportunities available for students.
- Wrap up your day with an open Q&A session with our faculty. This is a great chance to ask questions, learn more about our program, and discuss how CSU’s music therapy program can help you achieve your career goals.
We invite you to RSVP! For more information, please email musictherapy@csuohio.edu
