Students choosing this track complete the prerequisite courses needed to apply for graduate studies in the Occupational Therapy Doctorial Program at Cleveland State University.  Students have access to the Pre-Professional Advising office and can take advantage of the services offered there. These include the centralized application service, admissions requirements and engagement opportunities. Make sure to check out the program offerings, resources and newsletters they have available here !

Cleveland State also offers a Pre-Occupational Therapy Club  that all students are encouraged to join. This group helps students connect, get involved and share resources for graduate applications.

Students interested in applying to a graduate occupational therapy program must complete the following:

CORE - THREE COURSES

  • HSC 200 - Introduction to Health Sciences (waived for Tri-C and Lakeland 2+2 students and Post-Baccalaureate students in General Interest Track)
  • HSC 203 - Medical Terminology
  • HSC 305 - Culture and Health Care

  • STA 347 - Applied Statistics or
  • PSY 317 - Behavioral Science Statistics: Inference

REQUIRED COURSES - NINE COURSES

  • BIO 200 - Introductory Biology I
  • BIO 201 - Introductory Biology Laboratory I
  • HSC 381 - Pathology
  • HSC 422 - Physiology for the Clinical Sciences
  • HSC 450 - Physiology Lab
  • HSC 475 - Human Gross Anatomy
  • HSC 457 - Human Gross Anatomy Lab
  • HSC 476 - Neuroscience Systems
  • HSC 478 - Neuroscience Lab

PRE-OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AREA OF EMPHASIS - THREE COURSES

Students interested in the Occupational Therapy Doctorial Program must also complete the following, plus 15 credits of electives in an area of emphasis:

  • PSY 101 - Introduction to Psychology
  • PSY 223 - Life Span Development
  • PSY 345 - Abnormal Psychology

CAPSTONE - CHOOSE ONE COURSE

  • HSC 410 - Evidence Based Practice or
  • HSC 440H - Honors Cooperative Education Career Experience or
  • HSC 484 - Advanced Research and Writing in Health Sciences or
  • HSC 486 - Cooperative Education Career Experience or
  • HSC 487 - Community-Based Participatory Research and Health

ELECTIVES - 15 CREDIT HOURS
Students should be aware of the pre-requisite requirements for the graduate programs they plan to apply to, and should use these elective hours to complete any courses not included  in the required curriculum above.
